Welcome back to my blog! This week was the last week for this project. Since the project has come to an end, I spent the last week videotaping my dance. I also edited the video, and I uploaded it on youtube.
When I was videotaping my dance, I ran into some issues. Since I have learned so many dances for my competition team, I had a hard time remembering this dance. I had to practice it a lot before I filmed it so that it would be engraved in my brain. When I was videoing the dance, I had to do it multiple times because I would forget what came next. In the end I got it, and it ended up looking pretty good. This project has been fun, and I haven't had a lot of setbacks. The few setbacks that I did have were when I couldn't get into the studio to film my steps, and when I couldn´t remember my dance. I enjoyed doing this project, and I am proud with how the final product turned out. I hope you have enjoyed my blog. I posted my final dance that I choreographed on the videos page of my website. I hope you enjoy!

Welcome back to my blog! This week was dedicated to my dance. I finished choreographing the dance, and I really like how it turned out. I still need to clean the dance a lot, but in the end it will look good. I am going to try to video the dance next week, and then I will be done with this project.
While I was choreographing my dance, I ran into a few problems. I kept on wanting to use the same steps over and over again. This isn’t a huge problem, but it did make choreographing the dance a lot harder. Once I was at the very end of the dance, I was running out of steps to use. The ones that I had left, I felt like they didn’t fit with the music. Since this was a problem, I had to rearrange some of the steps, and where they fell in the dance. After I got that problem fixed, I was done with my dance! Next week I am supposed to videotape it. This is going to be difficult to do. I have to find a time that I can use the dance studio because I cannot film it at my house. The only day that I can film it is next Monday or Wednesday, so hopefully the studio is open. I really like how the dance turned out, and it was a new challenge for me. I am excited to video the dance to see how it turns out. This week I will not post a video on the videos page because I will not be learning any new steps. Once I have filmed the video next week, I will post it on the videos page of my website! Welcome back to my blog! This week was week 10 of my project which means that it was my last week to learn new steps. When I made this project I said that I would spend that last two weeks learning and choreographing the dance. This means that these following steps are the last ones that I will learn for the purpose of this project.
The first step that I learned this week is called a broadway. This step was challenging at first, but now it is pretty easy for me to do. This is a step, but it could also be considered a combination of steps. It combines flaps, heel drops, and spanks. These are all basic steps, but when combined they make one complex step. I learned this step during my tap class, and it is in one of my dances. The second step that I learned is called a back essence. This could also be considered a combination just like a broadway. A back essence combines back flaps and regular flaps. It is not as hard as some of the steps that I have learned, but it is not easy. It will take a little bit more practicing for me to make all of the sounds crisp and clean. When learning a tap step, you might be able to do it, but you aren’t truly doing it correctly if the sounds aren’t easy to hear and differentiate. This week I did not work a lot on my dance. I will spend the next two weeks on it. I will finish choreographing it, and then I will video it. I am hoping to finish the dance this coming week so that I can spend the next week videoing it. I will post the videos of the two steps for this week on the videos page of my website. I hope you enjoy them! Welcome back to my blog! This week I began choreographing my final dance. I have choreographed about half of the dance, but it still needs a lot of work. I think that it could flow a little better, so I might need to add some easy transition steps which I knew before this project. In a couple of weeks I need to be completely done with it so that I can film the dance.
The first step that I learned this week is called a cincinnati. My teacher Morgan taught me this step. After she taught it to us, she included it in our duet. I think that this step is really fun, and I am excited to incorporate it into my dance, It is not too hard to do, but it is not easy, and it looks really good if you do it correctly. I am going to work on executing this step a at a little bit of a faster speed. The second step that I learned is called a syncopated pull back. This step is fun to do multiple times in a row. A syncopated pull back is a good step to include in a dance if you need to travel across the stage. It brings you backwards, or it can bring you sideways. The way you travel depends on which way you do your preparation. I am going to include this in my dance to allow me to not stay in the same spot for the whole dance. I have really enjoyed the steps that I learned this week. I am excited to finish choreographing my dance. I have enjoyed doing something different and choreographing my own dance. I still need to work on my steps for this week, but I think that with more practice I will be able to execute them very quickly and cleanly. I posted the videos of my steps on the videos page of my website. I hope you enjoy them! Welcome to my blog! My project is going great although last week I was not able to use the empty studio. Since I could not use it, I wasn’t able to video my steps. I videoed them this week, and I will post them with my new ones for this week. This week I learned my steps during my tap group dance choreography. I still need to work on hitting all of the sounds, but overall they look good.
The first step that I learned is called a flap cramp roll. A cramp roll is a very easy step that you learn in a basic tap class. A flap cramp roll incorporates the original cramp roll, but you add a syncopated flap. This means that before you do the cramp roll you do a flap on each foot. This step is really fun to do once you get the hang of it because you can do it really fast. The second step I learned is called a single wing. In one of the previous weeks I did a single wing, and this step takes that original wing one step further. For this step you do a wing but it is on one foot. This step is very hard for me to do right now. It is hard for me to do because one foot is supporting all of my body weight, and then I have to push it out from under me and bring it back in. I still need to work a lot on this step. I hope that by the end of this project I am able to do this step without any problems. Since I am over halfway through with this project, I have started piecing together small parts of my dance. I have started doing this because then I see what fits together, and I can tell if these steps are going to work well with the song that I chose. I need to work a lot on my single wing, but all of my other steps are looking good. I posted the videos for this week and last week on the videos page of my website. I hope you enjoy them! Welcome back to my blog! This week I worked a lot on picking a song to use. ALong with picking a song, I also practiced my steps from previous weeks. So far the steps are looking good, and I am excited to see how the final dance turns out.
The first step that I learned this week is called a cross pull back. This step is more difficult than some of the previous steps. This step combines a normal pull back with a cross. This step is hard because you have to pull your feet inward rather than backward like you would do with a normal pull back. The second step that I learned this week is a paradiddle combination. This is a combination of simple paradiddles, but it is done very fast. This is easy when you do it slowly, but when you do it quickly your feet can get jumbled up. I think that the more I practice this step the easier it will become. I finally chose a song to use for my final dance. I have decided to use Problem by the Pentatonix. This song has a good beat, and it is easy to hear. I think that this song will go well with the steps that I have learned. I posted videos of me doing my steps on the videos page of my website. I hope you enjoy them! Welcome to my blog! Once again I learned two new steps this week. Soon I will need to start working on my choreography. I am thinking about changing my song, but I am not sure. The steps for this week look good, and I also videoed my steps from last week.
The first step that I learned this week is called a shuffle turn. This step takes a simple cross turn and adds a shuffle to it. This step is not super difficult, but you have to make sure that you spot your turn. When you spot a turn, you keep your focus on the front of the room to make sure you end in the right place. I think that this step could use some improvement, but it doesn't look too bad right now. The second step that I learned this week is called a maxi-ford turn. This step also takes a simple turn, but it adds a maxi-ford. When doing this step it is sometimes hard to hit all of your sounds. Since it is a fast turn you need to spot, and sometimes your feet can get a little jumbled up. If you don’t spot during this step, you might trip over your feet. I hope you enjoy the videos that I posted on the videos page of my website. I might change the song that I use for my final dance. I think that I will still choose something by the Pentatonix, but I might change the song. I will keep you updated on which song that I choose to use. Welcome to my blog! This week I learned two steps. My dance teacher Brittany taught them to me. This coming week she will help me perfect the them. This week the steps that I learned were easier than the ones from previous weeks.
The first step that I learned this week is called a reverse riff. This step takes a basic step which is a riff and reverses it. When you reverse the step, you do the step backwards and you start it a different way. It sounds very confusing, but it is not once you practice it a few times. A reverse riff is not very hard, but I still need to work on it. The second step that I learned is called a cross shuffle. When you do this step, you do a shuffle which is a very simple tap step, and you cross it over your other foot. This step is hard sometimes because you don’t always hit your sounds. Since you are crossing your feet, your foot might not reach the ground. In order to be able to reach the ground you have to use your plié. A plié is a ballet step but it is incorporated into all dance styles. I still need to work on the steps but I think they look pretty good. I think that I have decided to use the song Jolene for my final dance. I am going to use this because it has a good rhythm. I posted pictures of me performing my steps on the videos page of my website. I hope you enjoy them! Hello and welcome to my blog! This week I learned two brand new steps, and I was taught them by my dance teacher Brittany. I have improved a lot on my previous steps, but I’m hoping to improve even more. Each week I have been asking Brittany for tips on all of the steps, and she her suggestions have been very helpful. The first step I learned this week is called a shuffle with a pull back. This step combines two basic tap steps and turns them into one complex step. It takes a shuffle which is one of the very first tap steps that you learn how to do, and it combines it with a pullback. Pullbacks are easy if you put your weight in the right place, but when you add a shuffle to the step it makes it more confusing. The reason this step is confusing and a little difficult is because your two feet are doing two different things at the same time. This step is easier than I was expecting, but it still needs a little work. The second step that I learned is called a toe slide. You do this step by going up onto your toes, and you use your momentum to slide you forward. This step can be painful if you do not do it correctly because you can twist your ankle. The first few times I did it I almost hurt myself, but luckily I did not. One reason this step is hard for me to do is because of how heavy my shoes are. My tap shoes are very heavy and bulky, so they sometimes get stuck on the floor. Even though this step was difficult at first, it has become easier the more that I have practiced. Since this step still needs a little bit of work, I will ask Brittany for help with it on Thursday during my duet practice. These two steps still need some work, but they are looking good so far. I have found a few song options for my final dance, and this coming week I would like to narrow down the list. When we pick out songs for our duet we usually use a capella songs because you can easily hear the beat, and they sound good with the tap sounds. Since we usually use that type of music, I think I am going to use a song by the Pentatonix. It is hard to find a song that you can tap dance to because it has to have a good steady rhythm, but I think that I have found some good options. I posted videos of me doing my two steps on the videos page of my website. I hope you enjoy them! Welcome back to my blog! I have learned two new steps this week, and I have mastered the other steps that I have learned so far. Brittany also taught me my steps for this week. I still need to work on them, but I am hoping that I will be able to easily do them by next week
. The first step that I learned how to do this week is called a single foot pull up. I learned how to do this step forwards and backwards. This step seems hard at first, but once you do it a few times it is easy. Brittany taught me this step on Monday night. The second step that I learned this week is called a toe stand turn. For this step you do a pull up while turning. This step incorporates the single foot pull up, but instead I am using both of my feet. Brittany taught me this step, and she will be helping me improve on it. For next week I want to have these two steps perfected. I also want to start looking at song options for my final dance. You can view the videos of me doing all of my steps on the videos page of my website! |
